TD;LR 1. The civil war forced ROC to retreat to Taiwan from China mainland, and PRC controlled the mainland, not including Taiwan island. 2. ROC(current Taiwan) stood for the representative of China before the war. But since there were two different regimes simultaneously during the war, UN required us to negotiate with each other. The leader of ROC at that time took the initiative to quit UN, because he felt like it’s such a shame that he needs to communicate with a ‘traitor’ of the country(China). Thus, PRC took over the representative of China, and other countries now recognize PRC instead of ROC due to One China Policy proposed by PRC. 3. PRC and ROC both have their own military and government system, PRC can’t and also have no power to influence Taiwan practically. (although PRC claims that it is domestic affairs lol, can Hawaii elect their own president?) 4. People need passport and visa to go back and forth between two places. Does passport required to go to Hawaii for Americans? Most Taiwanese think there’s no need to strive for independence because we are ALREADY under a sovereignty(ROC), and its territory is Taiwan.

Very wise. Indeed, Russia is Europe's problem. Russian leaders do not want to be a part of Europe. Russia took the worst parts of Viking impulsiveness and Mongol cruelty and combined it with Slavic... slavishness.

Fun fact: Putin once offered to join EU and NATO, but got turned down. Because if russia join EU, the very reason for NATO existence will be gone. And that's not in the best interest of Europe's military industrial complexes.

Be aware, NATO is not a defensive alliance. It has perpetrated war after war destroying many countries and countless wars in the name of democracy and freedom. Except that many of these countries are actually democratic. From Syria, Libya, Iraq, former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan.

I'm gonna take a page from Vladimir Putin's mind, and say Europe has no Borders. The diference is Europe not only expands voluntarily, it has conditions for joining. Geography end it at the urals, politicly I think everyone should be welcome. We'll have to restructure and redesign some stuff but it's doable.
